well...It's the time of year again....and that means...SICKNESS :(
Fall is my favorite time of year: halloween, pumpkins, cold (but not too cold), sweaters, hot chocolate, Thanksgiving (YUM). But it also means sickness. yuck! my poor family. And can i say, I'M EXHAUSTED! Let's see what we've put up with the last couple weeks.
the first week of October, we all had colds. No big deal. It's to be expected at this time of year...right? Hoped that's the worst we'd deal with.
WRONG!
that sunday, in the middle of the afternoon, so randomly, Hyrum came to us and he had super pink, goopy eyes. He also had a slight fever. It definitely looked like pink eye. So we take him to the dr, and yup! pink eye! woo!...NOT! so he gets some eye drops. And hopefully that's it.
He missed school Monday, but went to school Tuesday. you know, because pink eye is only contagious for 24 hours after starting pink eye. the eye drops seemed to work great. The pink eye was clearing up wonderfully.
Wednesday, we were getting him ready for school. Josh has to take him to school, and i was giving him a hug goodbye, and his temperature felt warm. so we took his temperature. It was 100.5. And a fever starts at 100.4. So...he had to stay home. poor boy! he was so excited for school. that day, he just spent most of the day sleeping, and watching tv. We hoped it was just a quick 24 hour thing. But because he did have a fever on Sunday, too....It was hard to tell.
Thursday, super early in the morning (think 4:30 am) he threw up, and his temperature was 104.5! way too hot. so Josh takes him to the ER. poor kiddo! They tested for Strep, which came back negative. We didn't have very many answers. they just said it's viral and it'll go away on it's own. it was so hard! he slept all day once again.
Friday, was another rough day. His fever was still high. It even reached up to 105! it was so not fun. plus more throwing up. So we take him to a walk in place. While there, he developed a rash on his face as well. He didn't need any tests. As soon as the dr saw him, she immediately realized he had strep. So she prescribed some antibiodics. It was the white foamy NASTY stuff. it was so rough giving it to him. The first time, he didn't know what it tasted like. So that was easy. Giving him it that night was a different story though. He threw it up. And we had to give it for TEN days. But thank goodness it's all over! That medicine was AWESOME! it started working almost immediately. so yay! that's why we decided to give that instead of amoxicillan. And it definitely works better. I'll explain in a minute.
So now that Hyrum was sick, it's pretty natural that Corbin gets it, too, right? The next Monday, Corbin got it as well. It started off the exact same symptoms. Fever, throwing up. So i take him to the dr on Wednesday. We saw the same dr, so she didn't even test and just gave us amoxocillan. It's a pretty good chance he has exactly what hyrum had. and the amoxocillan didn't work as good! so that white foamy stuff definitely does better work. Poor corbin was sick a lot longer than Hyrum. Luckily, we didn't need to take him to the ER, and his fever didn't get as high. The highest his fever got was 103. But he still slept ALL the time, and threw up a lot. it was heartbreaking!
Because Corbin got strep first, I thought he'd get lucky and not get pink eye, like his brother got. WRONG! Thursday, he started showing symptoms of pink eye. NOT AGAIN! i decided to just start giving him some of the eye drops we had from Hyrum. I thought since we caught it soon enough, that it wouldn't be too bad. I was wrong again! his eyes started turning yellow, and blood spots. it was terrible!
At this point, i'm so drained. so tired of keeping track of their medications, and not sleeping at night because the kids would throw up.
So we decided to take Corbin back to the Dr on Sunday and get him started on some other eye drops, or see what else we could do. So they changed his prescription. And as soon as they did, we started seeing improvements. Thank goodness!
It was a very rough 1-3 weeks. I'm so tired! but i'm glad they are both better. And i really pray that's the only sickness we get this season! pray for us!
So let's just do a small update:
Josh- still working away. He is enjoying it for the most part. He's been having some health issues again...it's that time of year again. His kidneys have been really hurting, which he hasn't gone to the dr yet. His leg also hurts really bad. he can hardly walk on it some days. He went to the dr, and hopefully it's just a football injury (He's trying to get back into being active and played football not too long ago). hoping things get back on track soon!
Aly (me)- i'm still at home. We still don't have a car, but not from lack of looking. We just can't figure it out. thank goodness for my parents that are willing to drive us when Josh is working. It's been so hard! I picked up a babysitting job. It's a super cute 2 year old little girl (only 4 months older than Corbin), and we usually watch her 5-6 days a week, from about 4 pm-midnightish. It's been exhausting, especially with all the sickness going around. But she is the cutest little girl, while so sassy! i love it! hahaha.
Hyrum- He is struggling SO BAD. I wish i knew what to do. He doesn't listen at all. He is mean. calling us mean words, like fool, stupid, stupid fool, i hate you, idiot. I am so tired. he's been in therapy, for his sensory processing disorder, and going once a week. Starting next week, he's going twice a week. i really hope it helps.
Corbin- he is still a pretty happy kid. He's starting to hit the terrible twos (because, you know, his second birthday is in less than a month). He has a couple meltdowns, but they're so much easier to handle than hyrums! so i'll take it. He still isn't doing too much talking. We're taking him back in a week to re evaluate him to see if he's still super behind. quick reminder: last time we evaluated him, he was 22 months, and he was at about 12 months. So hopefully he's a little better. cross your fingers!
So that's been our lives since the beginning of the month. let's hope to a better November!
