Migraine(s), Be gone!!

for years, i've struggled with migraines. Never knew what caused them, and dr's never really took me serious. A quick side note: i have some PTSD from taking pills from when i was 11-12. So i'm pretty limited on medications i can take. It can only be liquid or chewables. My Dr prescribed me a medication that would work, it dissolves under the tongue. It sounded great! i was excited to try it. I've done just about everything else. it's time to fill the prescription and my jaw hit the floor! My insurance wouldn't pay for it, and it's $120 for 10 tablets! and i'd need to take one almost everyday. ouch! so there goes that idea. ugh! So back to the drawing board.
Now what should i do?? I do have some tylenol i can take, and it does help most of the time, but i need to double the dose, sometimes even triple it! Which obviously isn't good. And i'd have to take some every other day.
Most of the time i got a migraine, it was pretty rough, but fairly manageable. I knew if i slept it off, i'd get a day break most days. During them, I'd just be sensitive to light, and obviously sound. Somedays were worst than others. I wasn't always lucky. Sometimes they'd last a day, and I wouldn't be able to sleep. But that wasn't very often. Maybe once a month.
I heard about the daith piercing. It is in a pressure point that helps with headaches/migraines, so it should help. It also supposedly helps with anxiety, which is something i could use too! I thought about doing it a year or two ago. But i don't do good with needles!
When i was 9, i got my lobes pierced at Walmart, with a piercing gun. And i don't remember much about it, except the gun getting stuck and it hurt! So that obviously wasn't a great experience, which scared me more.
Last week though, I had the worst migraine i've ever experienced. It hurt so bad, light and sound hurt. I got extremely dizzy, i even threw up! it lasted 6 days! it was terrible, to say the least. my poor kids. thank goodness josh is home now, so i had some help.
Josh mentioned getting the piercing in passing. I joked it off, didn't think he was serious. But it did get me thinking about it.
So i started my search. I searched everything. Is there scientific proof that it works? That answer was there is no study, but the articles were done by Drs, and if people found other resources for their migraines, Drs wouldn't get paid for those things! I also looked up lots of pictures. I even watched a couple youtube videos of people getting it done, so i knew what to expect. And last but not least, i went to a couple facebook groups to hear real life opinions from people that have done it. On one group, i got almost 50 comments and all but one said they had a positive experience! either the migraines have disappeared, or at least reduced significantly. Only one person said it didn't help at all. That was enough for me to want to try it!
So i started looking up tattoo/ piercing shops in the area. There were two that really interested me. They both had the same amount of reviews and starts (4.7 out of 5). They both had licenses, and just seemed really good. The only difference was price, so i decided to go with the cheaper one.
I did all this research on the weekend, so we made plans on going on Monday.
Which, that gave me enough time to chicken out. After all this research, i still had no clue what to expect with pain. Some people said it hurt really bad, some people said not at all.
Monday came, and i was scared! i put my hair into fishtail braids, so that it'd be off my ears. Most of the videos i watched, the people laid down, so that's what i was expecting, which is why i didn't do a messy bun. I needed something more comfortable to lay down!
The shop opens at noon, so i had all morning to stress, and back out. My sweet husband basically said "come on, let's go. I won't take no for an answer" so we leave and head for the shop, that's clear across town. So i had that time to hyperventilate. I was FREAKING OUT! Like bad. My husband tries to comfort me, which worked until we walked into the shop.
Luckily, the owner of the shop was great. He talked me thru everything, he was very nice. Josh and Corbin came in with me, and i'm so glad they did!
I sit down in the chair, which like i said, surprised me. I thought i'd have to lay down. He gets the needle, the earring, cleaning stuff. I'm hyperventilating again. I get calmed down. And all of a sudden, the needle goes thru. "ouch" doesn't even begin to explain it. It hurt so bad! But it only actually lasted a couple seconds, so that was nice. But after it was done, i went into shock. I got so nauseous and dizzy. That was just as bad as the piercing! and it lasted longer, too. Luckily, the owner had some suckers, so that was able to get my blood sugars under control. And it helped a lot! He also helped with some breathing techniques. it was great. And i'm so glad Josh was there to help me walk afterwards.
It's only been a day since it's happened (literally coming up on 24 hours in a couple minutes...not that i'm counting. haha). As soon as it was done, i got relief from a headache, which was incredible! I did get a couple minor headaches, but they lasted seconds at a time. But definitely manageable, and i haven't had anything today. My ear hurt for a couple hours, but now it's only hurting if i accidentally bump it. I was really worried about sleeping, because the piercing is on the side that i normally sleep on, but it actually wasn't too bad! so that was reassuring. I'll definitely update, when it's been longer than 24 hours. crossing my fingers my migraines/headaches are gone or at least calmed down a lot.  But i'm so proud i did it! It also convinced me to get my lobes redone, so i can't wait!
