It's been a VERY long day...

So as we all know, it's Easter weekend. And...as some of you might know, my dad works in Montana, and he only comes home about every other weekend. Of course he comes home this weekend cuz it's a holiday. He got a little bit of later start. He headed out of town at about 4 or 5 (and it's an 8 hour trip!). And maybe 2 hours out of town, he got a flat tire on his truck! As most of you don't know, flat tires are kind of my family's thing. We had, i think, EIGHT last year! this is Dad's SECOND this month. gotta love those dang cars. We even had like 2 at the same time once! well, anyways. long story short...it took him a while to get a spare time back on the truck, so he can start his journey again...

We had my grandparents, and my mom's sister, who lives in Utah, over for a "fondant (spell check!) party" and it was delish! After we had fun with that, we played card games. It was fun, but it was fairly late (ok, like 9, but that's late for me. haha). So after that, me and Josh headed downstairs to watch a movie while we fall asleep, and the family left. It took me a long time to finally get to sleep, and when i did, i was OUT. Josh, on the other hand...wasn't. And then...there was a knock on the door. And it was mom. The time...12:30 AM! she told us the news, dad just got in a wreck, and she needed to go pick him up, 3 hours away. So to keep mom awake, i decide to head with her and leave Josh here with my 9 yr old brother Adam. We just stop by to get drinks for us, and head up to Montana. I asked mom what happened, and she said dad hit an elk. He was ok, but the truck...not

The roads were TERRIBLE. It was snowy, windy, it was a whiteout in some places. It was scary. we couldn't go more than 50, maybe 55. And we were super paranoid, about the whole animal situation. There were places we couldn't see more than a couple feet in front of us. holy cow! and it was late...so we were already kinda...well, ya. We just kept each other company, and sang along to broadway music. It was pretty fun.

Right along the canyon, right where dad hit this elk, there were so many animals! it was simply terrifying! just hoping not to hit one, and you know, have two damaged vehicles in a night. How suckish would that be?!

Well, once we finally got there (at 4 in the morning!) we go to Wal mart which is where the tow truck dropped off dad. It was so nice to finally see something and get out and stretch our legs. So this is what dad said happened when he hit the elk:

it was that windy, curvy canyon area, and there was a hill he was going over. He was obviously on the Right side of the road, but so were also three elk, just standing there. They were facing out to the field. And so dad just went onto the left of the road to avoid hitting them. Well, right when he got up to them, one of the elk decided to change directions and hopped right infront of him! The poor elk flew probably about 20 feet, and skidded even further, up into a ditch. We're pretty sure she was dead instantly, so atleast there was no real pain for her. Dad didn't even really know what was going on, and the airbag went off! we are so lucky no damage came out of that alone. He just said it was dark and couldn't see anything. But then after he pulled off the road, he called mom, told her what happened. Then he called the Highway patrolman that was out, and also called the tow truck to come get the truck. The HP stayed with dad til the tow truck came there, which was very nice. Then the tow truck came and away they went.

After Wal Mart, we had to stop by the truck and get everything out of it, and we wanted to see the damage as well. And boy, it was a lot worse than i was anticipating! My mom took a few pictures:

Here's the view from the front:

notice the hair?

And the airbag after it went off:

After that, we were on the road again. We finally left at about 5 AM, and we made much better time...we got there by 815! It was nice, and very comfortable in the back seat. Too bad, i only got about 1 hour of sleeping time. But hey, that's ok! I'm just so glad my daddy's ok! it could've been a ton worse, and it wasn't. So we are definitely counting our blessings today.
